Dialing for Dallas

Want to go hiking in Dallas, Texas? Why shore, you can do that, but you might end up feeling a little marginalized before too long. Having picked up "AFoot & Afield in San Diego" at the local (local to San Diego) REI, I figured there should be a reasonable local equivalent for Dallas...right? Wrong. The REI in Dallas has more books on Yosemite (over 1000 miles away) than on local hiking, which would be none. The only book on that, I found on Amazon. (Amazon.com Sales Rank: #260,290 in Books). I went to the first hike in the book on Saturday morning, and there were plenty of people there, nice place too Bachman Lake; lots of birds, some pretty big ones.If you hike in the Dallas don't set your heart on a lot of hills. Looking for that is like looking for a good techno style drummer. You're going to want a machine for that.

Maybe the whole hiking scene doesn't really take off till after summer. right now it's 90 degrees by 8am. It's a nice little hike; a little over 3 miles. It only takes about an hour. It's a little close to Love Field though
