I'm back

It's been a while.
I have a fairly good excuse. On October 5th I had a stroke.
What, you may ask, did it feel like?
Like being really tired, and just wanting to go home and crash. Fortunately I was with friends and having a conversation so that when it happened my speech became noticeably incoherent.
EMTs were called, my B.P. was 300 over 180. It's a weird feeling to have people you take to be experts in health care tell you that you should be dead. If I'd been alone, it might have gone unnoticed. I spent a week in the hospital, then six weeks resting at home before going back to work. The biggest difference is some weakness on my right side, but it's been getting better over time. One of my biggest fears was that I wouldn't be able to play guitar anymore... fortunately I'm still playing.
Going through that changed how I view health insurance. I'm much more sure than just a year ago that I need to have it. Therefore when my employer told us our jobs were moving far away, it became clear that the best way to be sure I would stay covered was to relocate to the Dallas/Ft Worth area. The biggest down side is been being apart from friends and family. There are some good parts to it though. Anyone who is lucky enough to sell even a modest condo in San Diego can afford a "big ol" house in Texas. I have co-workers who live in 3000-4000 sq ft houses.
Dang.
This isn't cactus and tumbleweed country, it;'s very green here. They do get tornadoes though.
Texans don't drive any better than Californians, just different; they tailgate more and use their horns entirely too much -that's just rude.
Texans are friendlier though. In San Diego, in the lunch room at work, no one sat at a table unless they were invited. Also, with few exceptions, people divided by race in Ca. In the lunchroom here, there are a few tables set up with chess boards and it's a daily occurrence to see strangers sit down to a quick pickup game- it's interesting to see hard hatted construction workers sit down and play chess.
It's hot, but not so hot to make me despair of life.
I've found a nice church close to home with nice people including a singles group that goes to lunch after church most weeks.
I'd rather be in San Diego with my usual social circle, but this place isn't bad.
